Check your tax code and Income Tax for this year
Sign in to your HMRC online account or the HMRC app to check your tax code, Personal Allowance and estimated income. A wrong tax code can mean you pay too much or too little tax.

What if you miss the deadline? A wrong tax code means the wrong amount of tax is taken from your pay or pension. Update your details as soon as something changes.
If you pay Income Tax through a job or a pension, HMRC uses your tax code to decide how much tax your employer or pension provider takes. You can check it online at any time and tell HMRC about changes.
How to do it
- Sign in to your HMRC online account or open the HMRC app. You may need photo ID to prove who you are.
- Check your tax code, Personal Allowance and estimated income from each job and pension.
- Update your estimated income or employer details if they are wrong.
- Tell HMRC about changes that affect your tax code, such as a new job, a second job or company benefits.
